Sustainability
NCL Sail & Sustain
NCL's global sustainability program, Sail & Sustain, is centered around a commitment to drive a positive impact on society and the environment while delivering on a vision to vacation better and experience more. The NCL Family visits nearly 500 destinations globally, allowing guests to travel and explore the world, and our business is inextricably linked to the preservation of our planet and the protection of our shared resources.
The environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy is focused on five pillars and was developed through cross-functional collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders. As NCL continues the ESG journey, we look forward to building upon this foundation and meaningfully contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as we collectively chart a path toward a more sustainable future.
REDUCING OUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
The future of our business is closely intertwined with the health of our oceans and the destinations we visit, and environmentally friendly practices allow our business to thrive. We are committed to addressing climate change and doing our part to protect and preserve the environment.
SAILING SAFELY
The health, safety, and well-being of our guests and crew is our highest priority, not only onboard our ships but also at every destination we visit. We take great effort to maintain a healthy, safe, and clean environment and have a stringent 24/7/365 public health and safety compliance culture.
EMPOWERING PEOPLE
We believe people are our most important resource, and we have an ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, diverse, and inclusive culture that supports and empowers our team members.
STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITIES
Dedication to Family and Community is one of our core values, and we are committed to strengthening our local communities, the communities we visit, and the local ecosystems through which we cruise. We believe it is our responsibility and privilege to give back to the communities around the world where we live, work, visit, and serve.
OPERATING WITH INTEGRITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
We have a strong corporate governance system in place to provide high standards of transparency and accountability and strive to be a leader in ethics and responsible business practices.

COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE
- Pursuing Net Zero Committed to pursuing net zero GHG emissions by 2050 across our operations and value chain.
- Reducing Carbon Intensity In 2023, we introduced short- and near-term GHG intensity reduction targets to guide us on our path toward net zero by 2050. These include a 10% GHG intensity reduction by 2026 and 25% by 2030.*
- Investing in Shore Power At the end of 2023, we achieved our 2024 target of equipping 50% of our fleet with shore power technology.
* GHG intensity is measured by MTCO2e on a per Capacity Day basis. The targets cover NCLH’s emissions from its fleet of ships, islands and facilities (Scopes 1 & 2) as well as upstream fuel- and energy-related activities, including well-to-tank emissions (portion of Scope 3). “Capacity Days” is defined as Berths available for sale, multiplied by the number of cruise days for the period for ships in service.
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
- Reduce waste Our crew adheres to a rigorous recycling program, ensuring our ships take advantage of every opportunity to recycle and reduce waste to landfill.
- Sustainable Initiatives Source coffee from Tostao, utilizing environmentally friendly roasting techniques, partnered with BarLab to develop eco-friendly cocktails and much more.
- Eliminate single-use plastics In 2020, we became the first major global cruise company to be plastic water-bottle free.
PROTECT OCEANS & WILDLIFE
- Harvest Caye Conservation Foundation The foundation focuses on advocacy and outreach work to promote conservation and awareness of threatened species in Belize.
- Environmental Partners
