Puerto Plata (or officially known as San Felipe de Puerto Plata) is the ninth largest city in the Dominican Republic and the capital of the province of Puerto Plata. For spectacular city views, take a ride up the Pico Isabel de Torres mountain which stands over 2,600 feet high. History buff? Visit Fortaleza San Felipe, which was built in the 16th century and served as a prison under the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo. If you'd prefer to take a more relaxing approach, grab a chair and a refreshing drink at the resort-style pool just steps from the ship!

Go Green- Sustainable Dominican Coffee
Discover how sustainable agricultural practices have revitalized the area’s coffee production by visiting an ecolodge that has overcome the challenges that once plagued the industry. Coffee has been grown in the Dominican Republic for centuries, but in the 1980s insect pests such as berry borers began to devastate the crop. You’ll observe how coffee is now grown and processed using methods that better protect the plants like the berry borer trap baited that lures insect into it. Every phase of production from planting, harvesting, roasting the coffee beans to cupping will be covered. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to a local reforestation also with the local sustainability as part of the incomes generated from this activity goes to the Funds of Local Restorations Coffee Farmers project . A traditional typical lunch of rice, beans and chicken stew and salad will then be served. After the coffee experience on the way back to pier, stop by Puerto Plata Historical Centre for a panoramic view and colorful photo time.
Damajaguas Nature Walk & Cultural Experience
Enjoy a nature walk along the river to a series of waterfalls for a refreshing swim and then experience the local culture by shopping for handicrafts and dining on characteristic Dominican cuisine. The source of the cascades is the Damajagua River, a cool crystal-clear stream that tumbles through the mountains forming waterfalls of varying heights. You will have time to time swim in the placid pools below the cascades and admire the natural setting before continuing on to a typical country market. A sampling of fresh-brewed coffee and a chocolate sweet will serve to whet your appetite for the sumptuous buffet lunch that follows at the nearby hacienda La Huerta. Most of the ingredients for your lunch will have been grown in the gardens that surround this former sugar plantation. To enhance the dining experience, you will be offered a tasting of Brugal Rum, which has been distilled in Puerto Plata since 1888.
